One of the best things about pilates is that it requires nothing other than yourself and a mat to get started, however if you're looking to add an element of variation or some additional challenge to enhance your routine - incorporating small props is one of my favourite ways of accomplishing this.
Here is everything you need to build your own at home pilates prop kit:
Stability Ball - one of my most used props for assisting with proper alignment, stabilizing the muscles and useful for many other modifications and/or adding challenge
Bala Bangles - I recommend having 2 sets of these in case an exercise allows for weights on ankles and wrists simultaneously. These are the perfect pilates prop for on the go as they easily fit into any small bag.
Pilates Ring - super versatile small prop that can be used for resistance, stabilizing, and also alignment.
Therabands - also known as resistance bands. I recommend having a few of these in various levels of resistance for stretching, stabilizing, and toning. Another great prop to take with you when travelling as they take up no room in your bag.
Foam Block - not a must have but a nice to have for extra support and modifications when needed.
These are the go to's that make up my small prop kit for pilates. Any one of these alone can enhance your pilates routine, or can be used together in any combination. I hope you found this guide useful when putting together your own at home kit and if you need more guidance on how to use these props in your pilates practice you can always get in touch to book a private 1:1 session with me by clicking here or sending an email to info@thelkpilates.com.
