The following are some of the most asked questions I hear regarding pilates and some general faqs for your information.
WHAT IS PILATES?
Pilates is a low-impact form of movement that strengthens your whole body with a focus on your core. You will feel longer, leaner and more balanced after every session!
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF PILATES?
There are so many benefits! Pilates will lengthen and strengthen your whole body and your core while improving your flexibility, alignment and balance. All of this which leads to feeling taller, stronger, more focused and can prevent injury in your day to day life.
HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO DO PILATES?
One of Joseph Pilates' most famous quotes is "in 10 sessions you'll feel the difference, in 20 you'll see the difference and in 30 you'll have a whole new body." From what I have seen and experienced, I completely agree! But the most important thing is to find what works for you and listen to your body. With that being said I would aim to do 2-3 sessions per week.
WILL I BE ABLE TO DO PILATES AS A TOTAL BEGINNER?
Absolutely! Pilates really is for everybody! You start by building the foundation and learning about the pilates principles and then add in more challenge over time. Anybody can do pilates - start where you are now and keep building.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?
There is no requirement for equipment, this is one of the reasons why I love mat pilates! It makes it so much easier to stay committed to your practice when you can do it anytime without needing anything other than yourself. If you want added challenge you can incorporate some small props such as ankle weights, resistance bands, stability ball, and/or a pilates ring.
IS PILATES SAFE DURING PREGNANCY?
Pilates is safe and so beneficial during pregnancy when you are taking a prenatal specific or private pilates class. I always highly suggest booking private 1:1 sessions during the prenatal period to target specific areas and receive the most guidance on how to confidently and safely move your body during this time.
I hope this was helpful answering your questions regarding pilates. If you have any other questions that were not covered here e-mail info@thelkpilates.com or get in touch with me here.
